The Summerlands
Nov. 21st, 2003 01:19 pmThis morning, after filing periodocals and magazines to be shelved later, after copying and recopying routing labels, I headed out to lunch at noon. To Ollie's for a bacon cheeseburger, and to Barnes & Noble to pick up my ordered copy of Caitlin R. Kiernan's "Low Red Moon". I stepped outside. Warmth washed over me like the greatest sunscreen wish since August. The sun bore violently down on humans, squirrels and birds confused and pleased, not a cloud in the powerfully bright blue sky. It made me feel as though summer were just around the corner.
It's nearly December.

To Whom It May Concern,
Why do you torture me so? You know how much I love this beautiful weather and yet so soon it will be quickly returned to the cold cold dreary dim days of winter. Have we, as humanity, done something so wrong to deserve such a fleeting, sweet glimpse of what eternity could be? (don't answer that)
I have requested numerous times to be transported to Italy, or Alpha Centauri, since I understand the weather there is always perfect. It's all right if those requests are never processed and answered. I supposed days like this would be answer enough. Thank you for at least thinking of my humble species, and for not letting the bastard Christ-god Yahweh hog all the glory.
Sincerely,
A not-so-pesky human
