The Brave Ones
What price we pay
What cost innocence
What graves we dig
To bury ourselves.
What world is this
Just outside
Touch forbidden
Unforgiven.
Bury me not in the shroud of your tears
But in the soothing soil of your soul
Where I am withered
Only to heal
In the night
At the price
Of my innocence.

I have a receipt for 9.11
Sep. 11th, 2006 01:43 pmWhen I went out to lunch, I went to Marvelous Market. I got the Mediterranean Wrap (chicken, kalamata olives, romaine, red onions, cream cheese, artichoke hearts, shredded provolone). And then on a whim, I got some blueberry yogurt. I took the sandwich and the yogurt to the counter, and the man rang me up and told me the total. "Nine dollars and eleven cents," he said. I handed him a twenty. I glanced at the register screen again, seeing the numbers more clearly and realizing what they said. I smirked. "Hey, $9.11."
He looked over and smiled quickly. "Yeah. I guess you'll want your receipt."
"Yeah, I'll save it," I said, and put the receipt in my purse.
First time this has ever happened, where my total purchase is also the date it was bought on. And this day, of all days.
The wrap was delicious as always. The blueberry yogurt was the best blueberry yogurt I've ever had.
And now, despite the headache, I can't stop smiling, just a little.
