afterwards
Nov. 25th, 2006 12:23 pmSomething that was never done before after a Thanksgiving feast: A three-hour nap coma. All four of us succumbed. Adam and I went upstairs to my bedroom and collapsed; James and Beca stayed on the living room couch. It was refreshing.
Movies: Over The Hedge, Batman Begins, LA Story, Lord Of War. James had several episodes of the new ShoTime show, Dexter, on his laptop, which was hooked up to the TV.
This morning, very early, Adam took Beca and James to the Bridgehampton train station, so they could spend the weekend at her parents. Adam and I are now off to Southampton.
Ah, good news. Mom's friend Lee, the master jeweler, has agreed to "remake" my original engagement ring, into something I actually want. Originally, Adam's mother had given him this massive rock, 32 blue and white diamonds set in platinum, from her own parent's 32-year anniversary. It is lovely, but not at all practical for my hand, as it looks like a head of broccoli and is very heavy and the prongs are sharp. Lee has agreed to take a whole new band, made of pink gold with a white gold tube setting, and take the largest diamond and six small diamonds, and set them all in the new ring. It is very affordable; we can do it in just a few quick monthly payments. I'll have the ring by the end of December. Then I shall take pictures. And I will have my engagement ring, the one I always wanted.
The great thing about Lee is that he does amazing work and is one-handed. Literally: He was born to an alcoholic mother and does not have any fingers on his right hand, only his thumb. He was born with only a thumb. But that doesn't even bother him. The jewelry is stunning. So I am proud to have a personally designed ring made by the masterful Lee Elliot of Sag Harbor.
