Strike/Out
Dec. 20th, 2006 11:28 amI tried. I really did.
I went to work this morning. On the train, I was bundled up and felt exhausted and congested.
My work day starts at 8:30; my boss Ray comes in about twenty minutes later. This morning, I arrived at 8:30 and began preparing newspapers, magazines, and periodicals for the morning route. Ray came in, greeted me, and then told me I looked and sounded awful. He asked why I came in at all. I said I thought I was feeling better. I wanted to make an effort. I also wanted to print out and sign my time sheet. But Ray said I should go home. He commended my "courage" and appreciated the effort, but he said he'd rather I was home asleep and recovering. So I compromised. I finished up putting the morning route together, then went to the office manager to hand in the time sheet. And then I went back upstairs, shut down my computer, put on my coat, waved goodbye to Ray, and left.
Ray had suggested that I go to CVS and pick up some expectorant cold medication and cough drops, and gave me some cash, which was very sweet of him. I got what I needed, and then decided that since I was there, I'd go to Marvelous Market and get lunch and juice. I bought the Herb Roasted Portobello Sandwich, and pomegranate juice, and Vitamin Water with vitamin C, and a chocolate chip cookie because I really wanted a chocolate chip cookie.
And now I am home. Mom just called, and we talked, and she wondered if I should go to the doctor and get some antibiotics in case it's bacterial. But I told her I'd been taking the oil of oregano, which is antibiotic and antiviral. And she said to just keep that up, drink warm water with lemon, drink hot chicken broth, and sleep.
And I'm gonna hope and hope that tomorrow I will feel well enough to go to work and stay. Sigh.
