I called Adam to say hello; he was sitting at one of Las Vegas' famous oxygen bars, having peppermint-scented oxygen tubed up his nose before he boards the red-eye flight back to Maryland. He had packed up all the laptops to ship back to the shop in Virginia, and checked out of his hotel room. He said he missed me and he loved me, and he'd call me tonight before his flight. He'll be home tomorrow morning. By the time I come home from work, my husband will be home. Nine days was not so long.
However... Colorado. Denver. Next week. He'll be driving. He hasn't worked out the details with his boss about how long. I suspect it won't be more than a week, but you never know. Such is the life of a skilled computer tech and top field technician for a computer equipment rental company that rents equipment all over the country. I am very glad he and his boss, Larry, are almost friends, because Larry makes sure Adam is well-compensated for all the travel, the food, etc. I don't mind the travel, I really don't. We started out as a long-distance relationship, and that lasted for two years, and it was my first real relationship. I learned to expect the unexpected, to cherish and treasure the moments we would have together. Our relationship strengthens and flourishes. We aren't around so constantly that we get on each other's nerves too much, and any argument or dispute is settled with laughs, hugs and kisses. Nothing is really too big or too much to worry about, because no matter what we will be together. He is my strength. He has been my strength and my passion and my fire for over seven years, and when we celebrate our second wedding anniversary in May, I will know that this is and forever will be my soul, my mate, my transcendence.
I look at the clock. It is 9:00 PM. In Nevada, it is 6:00 PM. At 11:00 PM Nevada time (2:00 AM Maryland time), Adam will be on his plane. He will touch down at Dulles around 6:00 AM Friday morning, and drive to the Virginia shop to finish up. Then he will drive to Gaithersburg, and by the time I am in DC at work, my husband will be in our bed, under the warm blankets, counting down until evening when his wife walks back through the door.
And I will have wonderful dreams tonight.
