The kind people at MetroAccess are very funny. I now have a May appointment for my reassessment (paratransit service throughout the DC Metro area, with free Metro and bus rides) and sore ab muscles from laughing. Which reminds me to make a neurologist appointment because of all the seizures and spasticity. Also, maybe it's just me, but Metro's rail service is getting better. I know everyone hates it with good reason, but I can't complain since it's free for me with the special ID. All I know is that I'd be screwed without it.

Random Thing:
I have a Thing for pens. Today, Adam wanted to go to Michael's craft store for more small canvases, and I found the Artiste Pen section. I have a particular weakness for pens that contain archival ink for acid-free environments and micro pigment ink for waterproof and fade proof fine lines (which happens to be the selling point for Pigma Micron pens, cough), as well as a weakness for Gelly Roll pens, especially the blue and purple kinds. It's very specific. You can't just hand me a random Bic pen and expect me to be happy. It's essentially part of the OCD. The pen must have the right weight, the right tip, the right ink, the right flow, the proper smoothness, even the right scratch against paper. If it doesn't, I may literally throw it across a room. I've given pens away simply because I didn't like some small thing about them.
Adam gets me free pens all the time from hotels around the country (I have so many fancy hotel pens, oh so many shiny silver clicky pens with feathery weight and gentle balance and fine to medium tips with smooth ink flow, clicky clicky, shiny shiny). But there is something about acid-free archival ink pens with micropigments and fine tips that makes me giggle in glee. If I went to Japan, I'd probably sleep in whatever stores they have that sell pens.
When I was less badly hindered by disability, I wrote everywhere and often. I never was good at drawing, but I had picked up Mom's habit of idly doodling in margins; eyes, lips, shapes, weird lines. I always hated ink that smudged and ran. I didn't even know there was ink that didn't do that until I was in my twenties. Then all bets were off. For example, if I could write a check with the pen, I could love the pen.
Now I am training my fucked up hands to work slowly and gently, just like with art. Micro fine pens are awesome for that. At first I figured I should buy chubby pens that would be easy on my hands, but the lure of the finer pen was strong. I am certain there are chubby micro-fine pens out there. For now, there is Micron and Gelly Roll.

I crave bagels now. Poppy seed or sesame or whole wheat with a schmear (fine, lots of cream cheese, forget schmear) and Nova lox and capers. I miss BJ Pumpernickel's in Olney. But there is Bageltown and Bagel City and such. It's not New York bagels (it will never be my precious Brooklyn bagels) but close enough.
