Now we know who really wrote that book

This is made of pure gold and win and has completely brightened my mood:
Pat Robertson's Meeting With God...Doesn't Go How He Wants It

Not everyone in New Orleans is "brown-skinned." That's my only complaint with that.

Wait, where did it say that? I missed that! Also, I agree. I wonder if whoever said that was joking.

It's in GOD's line!

God: I DID? HUH. DID WE MEET DOING AID WORK AFTER HURRICANE KATRINA?
Pat: Why, no, God, I couldn't help those people! That hurricane was a judgment on the wicked!

...

God: YOU KNOW, PAT, ALL THE PEOPLE TOO EVIL FOR YOU TO HELP WERE BROWN-SKINNED. ISN'T THAT A FUNNY COINCIDENCE?

:\

Oh, I must have just glossed over that!
Maybe it would have been better had the line been "a lot of the people"?
Maybe the author of the bit figured that the majority of those affected in the disaster were brown-skinned? I dunno. It does sound weird now that I've read it over.

The author is probably just arguing against the logic a lot of right-wing Christians tried to use when Katrina did. Although it is highly illogical because not everyone affected was black, Vodun IS very prominent in Louisiana, especially New Orleans, so they must be referring merely to the same believe that both Christian right-wingers AND many Vodun practitioners share, even though the source is different: Katrina happened because of religion-specific reasons.

I'm trying to give the author the benefit of the doubt, but it is a very glaring, awkward thing to say when you consider the technicalities of the statement.

It is glaring and awkward, and I wonder if anyone else will see that. And you know, your guess may be right.

Ohh, by the way! I got your chapters. :) Would you like any feedback as I read? There are a few things I feel like I should tell you because I don't typically read "fantasy novels," for lack of a better term. I thought maybe you might want to hear something from the perspective of a demographic that would be less likely to pick up the book if they saw it on the shelves in that section, you know? Just let me know!

[identity profile] brightlotusmoon.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, do give me feedback -- in fact, I welcome a good critique from someone not in my target demographic. If you point out all the flaws that I already feel, I'd be happy and we can compare what sucks and what doesn't!

Awesome! I'll shoot you a message soon. I've only read the first chapter so far. I was busy when I checked my e-mail. :|

Yay! I actually updated my LJ with such news. Also, because I'm writing. In the book. In the current chapter. Damn, my villain is weird.

[identity profile] tokio.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing bad, of course. They were just some thoughts I had while reading it. While reading it, I tried to detach from the fact that I know you.

Oh, okay! That's good, then. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
