The author is probably just arguing against the logic a lot of right-wing Christians tried to use when Katrina did. Although it is highly illogical because not everyone affected was black, Vodun IS very prominent in Louisiana, especially New Orleans, so they must be referring merely to the same believe that both Christian right-wingers AND many Vodun practitioners share, even though the source is different: Katrina happened because of religion-specific reasons.

I'm trying to give the author the benefit of the doubt, but it is a very glaring, awkward thing to say when you consider the technicalities of the statement.

Ohh, by the way! I got your chapters. :) Would you like any feedback as I read? There are a few things I feel like I should tell you because I don't typically read "fantasy novels," for lack of a better term. I thought maybe you might want to hear something from the perspective of a demographic that would be less likely to pick up the book if they saw it on the shelves in that section, you know? Just let me know!
