Admittedly, I did not know some of these.

Anyway.
People all over have been saying that LJ might be dying. I don't believe that. I never did. I can certainly switch to DW, but LJ has been my safe haven since autumn 2001, way back two usernames ago. Hi, LiveJournal, I still love you.

I started here in 2002, after using Dead Journal for a while until someone could send me a registration code. I started blogging after I was dumped by my girlfriend at the time. I'm still using the same username I had when I started it.

I've been on FB for 6 years, but still prefer LJ as its like the difference between a crowded city and a pastoral landscape.

To the thought that LJ is dying, it is true that there was a mass exodus to FB by the West, but that was also partly to do with SUP media buying out SixApart and moving development to Russia. An influx of Russian and Eastern European members have offset the balance.

For some time the code base that LJ ran on was obsolete, but the Russian developers have improved it and it is still in development.

Then there is http://LJbook.com/ that will turn your journal into a PDF that you can get turned into a book.

Sadly, some of the linked document is deprecated but still "works", like <i> instead of <em> for italic and <b> instead of <strong> for bold.
