North By No
Oct. 11th, 2007 10:22 amThis is how awful my sense of direction is, if I haven't walked the area for months and months and months.
The Hyatt hotel on H street is literally across the street and down a couple of blocks from my office building. A left turn and I'm there. However, it took me twenty minutes of staring at Mapquest to realize this. I couldn't find North if you gave me a compass. Really. I go by landmarks and buildings and street signs, left and right; not north and south and east and west.
When the lightbulb finally clicked on, I sat back in my chair, said, "Oh! H and 10th! It's that way! On the left! Across from that deli that's past the Subway and next to the Quizno's! Okay!"
Followed by a sad shake of my head as I realized I could actually get myself lost between 8th Street and 10th Street. Ay.
Well, I shall go there at lunch and meet Adam to pick up his paycheck that will pay November's mortgage. It shouldn't take long, after all. It's right there. Across the street from the Quizno's. On the left.
Which is, apparently, north.
