On hold

My boss, Ray, left again to go home. The antibiotics are messing with him again. I feel really bad for him. He gets bacterial pneumonia every single year once the weather turns cold, and his lungs are irrevocably scarred. I'm actually very worried that soon enough he won't come back, ever. He's only in his early fifties, he looks young and lives a very healthy lifestyle. But his lungs, liver, and kidneys are so screwed up. He still doesn't trust traditional doctors and medicines. He doesn't want the antibiotics. But he needs something strong like antibiotics. There's only so far you can go with alternative medicines before you can't go any further, you know?
I'll be staying until five again. My normal hours are 8:30 to 4:30 and I am salary, so I get a half-hour of overtime pay for each day that I stay until the library closes at five. I don't mind it at all, but I wish the circumstances were better.
I don't know why, but it makes me think about the alarmists shouting about the avian flu and how it will devastate the world.

Adam just left Annapolis after visiting Mikey. Mikey had to have some major dental surgery -- major for him at least. For those who don't know, Michael is Adam's little brother. He's 28, but he has the mind of a toddler. He was born four months premature, and he would have been fine, but due to neglect and problems in the hospital, he suffered severe, severe problems. He is completely blind. He has severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy, all three kinds. He's severely mentally retarded. We think he's also slightly autistic. He's around my height and skinnier than me. He can't really talk except for simple words, so he uses basic sign language and grunts. He can't chew solid food, so they have to feed him a mix of peanut butter and jelly, or baby food, or a sludge drink made of thick nutritional liquid supplementation and other liquid foods. His favorite thing to do is play musical keyboards, so the group home he lives in has battery-powered keyboards all over his house. Essentially, he is and always will be a small child. When he was born he was in the hospital for two years because of the hospital's fuck-ups. He didn't sit upright until he was six, didn't walk until he was twelve. He can't do a whole lot for himself, but he is still an amazing, extraordinary kid who loves to laugh and loves to hug you, and will listen intently to everything you say (unless he doesn't like something, and then he'll put his hands over his ears and shake his head back and forth). He's one of the main reasons that Adam is so incredibly compassionate and willing to help me with my physical disorders. Adam has helped raise Mikey, so he's good with all the icky gross weird stuff that comes with taking care of an invalid, a baby, or a sick person (I'm not; I can't deal with it at all). It's also where Adam gets his attitude of "Push yourself past your limitations." The family never let Mikey stop working hard. If Mikey couldn't stand up, they helped him stand up and made him keep standing even when it hurt, because he had to stand. So having dental work done can be big. They have to completely sedate him and make sure he will be okay. He's had so many surgeries in general that his stomach looks like it had tire treads. He's so incredible. And he's a major reason why I choose to push myself so hard. Because Michael doesn't really complain, he just works around his limitations. And he knows more than many people give him credit for.

So, good thoughts for Michael's recovery, and for my boss as well.

Looks like tea tree oil is no longer good for my skin. Anything more than a very small concentration buried in with a bunch of other oils gives me a reaction -- red itchy burning skin. It's all right, I can't stand the smell anyway.

Vicki's Psyche Lotion is working better than I'd expected as far as the scent goes. The oils of orchid, rose, chamomile, and neroli are very calming and very trascending indeed. Good for meditation. Also good for my migraines, hurrah.

A question for all my pagan friends, and anyone else who wants to answer:

What is paganism to you? How do you define being pagan?

You know the saying, ask three pagans what it means to be pagan, and you get six different answers.

Because I define myself as an eclectic polytheistic pagan who practices witchcraft, my sense of paganism is both very specific and very broad. My definition: Paganism is an umbrella term for a large number of spiritual belief systems, outside of Abrahamic religions, that can involve earth worship or reverence, nature, elemental forces, multiple gods, spirits, and various kinds of magic, magical abilities, and magical practice, as well as personal meditations, connecting with universal forces and knowledge, and expanding the mind through meditation and experience. Not all pagan faiths adhere to the same principles, but in general most pagans believe in a blend of those things.

1. Tell me three things you love about me.

2. Tell me three things you love about yourself.

3. Look through the comments; when you see someone you know, tell them three things you love about them.

4. Do this in your journal.
