Huh. Maybe Tom and Katie aren't so insane after all. This is actually a beautiful name.
I love unusual names. I keep trying to come up with interesting names for new characters. I love names that describe beautiful things, like Angelina, or Rose, or Dawn, or Ariana, or Liana.
(When I was a child, for some reason I thought my name was boring. I wanted to expand on it, change it, make it prettier. And then I decided Joanna was a beautiful name, and I learned that my mother had named me after a movie character played by Audrey Hepburn. And then Mom said, "It's a good thing too, because you have her jawline and eyes, and her skin." We laugh, sometimes, because I am so much like my father that Mom isn't sure if she was even there in my conception and birth, and we've joked that I absorbed Audrey Hepburn's spirit, hah. I am nowhere near as amazingly phenomenally soulfully rose-petal beautiful as she, but I like having a somewhat similar look.)
I have often wondered what would be the most intriguing names I could give to human characters, names that really mean something. I'm still thinking about what names I would call the most lovely to my ears.
Names can have power in strange ways. It can affect people in different ways. A name connected to different people can influence those who hear it.
Adam doesn't like the name Sarah at all. He connects it to his first girlfriend, and the relationship ended horribly. He dated another girl named Sarah -- although it was only her nickname, as her real name was unusual -- and again it ended very badly. He's not fond of the name. Yet for me, the name Sarah is lovely and has good memories. My very first friend, when I was a toddler, was a girl named Sarah. For a while I wanted to name my future daughter Sarah.
I have known many girls named Jennifer. One of them, another of Adam's exes, is a vicious whorebitch. Another is one of my dearest sweetest friends. One of my grade school friends was Jennifer. It is a very common name.
My first boyfriend, David, went by his middle name, Damar, since his father was David. His friends called him Dave; his family and I knew him as Damar.
I have actually known people to avoid socializing with a person of a particular name, because someone terrible from their past had the same name.
Names have power.
For humans, everything needs a name. In magick, if you know the name of a thing, you have a link to it. You can affect it and in turn be affected by it. Invoking a name can be powerful, yes.
I am still browsing babynames.com, by the way. I used to collect baby name books. My parents never quite understood why. Even as a child I was fascinated by the power behind names.
Once you name something, a part of it might always be yours.
