After work, I went to a Borders store, bought a chocolate cupcake to go, and then lost track of time browsing through the YA and SF sections. By the time I actually got home, it was pitch black and seven-thirty -- at least an hour later than my normal time. Adam called asking where I'd been; he'd been trying to call me since five. Whoops. He's staying overnight in DC, since he needs to be right back there early tomorrow morning, so it make sense. He is setting up computers for a conference at the Hyatt two blocks from my office, and he actually didn't need to leave home to get there until late this afternoon, hence the overnight stay. He picked up his paycheck today, two days early, and since it's the mortgage-paying check for November, he'll be giving it to me so I can put in my savings account, transferring it to checking when it's time to pay next month's mortgage. I have the option of going over there on my lunch break to find him and pick it up. And say hello.
One major perk of Adam's job: Getting thousands of dollars worth of used computers, plasma televisions, and electronics from his boss for free or nearly free. Our townhouse is so wired it's crazy.

Pardon me. Our baby turtle, Donatello, is hungry. He is splashing and tapping against his tank. As I turn to look, his tiny legs are pumping, scrabbling joyously, wondering where his pellets are.

By the way... is "Pushing Daises" actually good? I haven't watched it yet. But I did watch the latest episode of "Dexter" last night. I love that show.

Hehe, you have a baby turtle named Donatello too? I have my four little ones...you can probably guess their names. ;)

Pushing Daisies is hilarious...it's very witty and surreal and the characters are nice and quirky. If you get to see the first episode, the little girl who plays Chuck is the star of the movie I worked on. She is a doll. :)

My husband used to have five baby turtles. He named the fifth one Splinter. *grin*

I think I'll start watching the show; it seems incredibly whimsical, but I just can't get past the concept of his gift -- it's so... complex.

I just tried, but he keeps moving! He's very very active. Maybe later I can catch him sitting on his piece of driftwood or the upside down computer keyboard that Adam put in the tank. When he's not chillin' on the wood or keyboard, he's swimming back and forth.
Donatello has grown to the size of my palm (he used to be really really tiny), and he's a painted turtle.

Pushing Daisies is the most wonderful beautiful thing I have seen on television. It is whimsicle but hasn't yet turned sacharine, and the naration feels fairy-tale like. The photography is exquisite. It evokes everything you've heard it compared to - Dead Like Me, Amalie, Tim Burton. I am nearly giddy expecting the next episode. Please watch it, I need it to not be cancelled.

Thank you! I knew it reminded me of Amelie, but I could not for the life of me remember that it was 'Amelie' I was being reminded of.

I've also just heard the Sweeney Todd musical, so him being a pie maker was very apro-po.

Or lordy, Pushing Daisies is SPLENDID in my opinion.
I have loved every last second of it.
I was seriously impressed.
