Sun's Day. With cats.

This morning, Adam and I woke up to a treat -- Penelope jumped up onto the bed and rubbed against us. She has a very tiny voice and a very soft purr.
Jupiter and Luna appear to have completely accepted her. They're not friends yet, though. Penelope still prefers to hide under the bed and growl at Jupiter, who mrrs and trills curiously. However, catnip appears to bring them together as close as Penelope will allow. Turns out that she loves catnip. She bathes in it. If we give her a toy mouse rolled in catnip, she'll play with it with enthusiasm. I'm not worried. It's not even been two days. They'll need lots of time. But I am relieved that the only one being growly is the new one. Penelope is scared. This is her first time in a house in what might be at least a year. This is probably her first interaction with domesticated cats in that same amount of time. But what's nice is that Luna and Jupiter are willing to be considerate and give her space while at the same time showing her that they mean no harm. Adam thinks that in a few weeks, they'll probably be grooming each other, or at least curled up on the bed together.
In two weeks, Adam and I will be in New York, on the east end of Long Island, Suffolk County, Southampton, Sag Harbor, Noyac, my parents' home. A few years ago, it was called "one of the world's most beautiful places." It's always been beautiful.
