My three favorite gemstones: amber, kyanite, tourmaline. I'm not sure how well this works, but I like it so far.

Currently, I have a copper bracelet embedded with a large rainbow obsidian, made by Adam. I cherish rainbow obsidian and copper.

In my private little branch of agnostic eclectic polytheistic pagan belief system, I'm big on gemstones helping to enhance and guide my magics and such. It's hard to find a pendant that offers pentacle plus amber and kyanite and tourmaline, so I'll see how this triple pendant thing makes me feel. I just need to remember to remove it before sleeping and showering. I'm still figuring out how to magically charge the whole thing in a pagany type way.

So, it works? :-D

I work with gemstones (in every sense of the word, really) :). Amber is something I wear constantly as a necklace - I either wear a triple green/Baltic/lighter-than-Baltic amber setup, or just a Baltic amber worked in silver to augment what I've put into the stone. Remember that you don't necessarily need them all to be pendants - I work just as well with the diamond in my engagement ring, in my wedding band, or the opals in my alternate wedding band, depending on my needs. Amber is always around as a balance, though.

What are you going for with the gems?

Ooh, I like what you do! I prefer cognac, honey, and lemon Baltic amber myself.

I need to ground myself while letting myself work with higher planes, to calm my anxiety issues, to open myself in general, to help myself tap into my potential. Probably why I shouldn't wear the tourmaline at night...

Green amber actually helps with anxiety and general balance.

For the amber in general, though, I recommend a salt cleanse at new moon, on the calendar-marked day of the new moon, and then set it out in the moonlight to catch the energy of the first night of the moon starting to wax... Really build on the grounding and centering aspect that amber has.

Tourmaline I recommend waiting until the half waxing moon to do so, cleanse at the half and moonlight on the following night. Should adjust some of that potency down if you're sensitive to it. Are your pieces pewter, gold, or silver set? Never underestimate the power of the metal you're wearing, and iron -will- mess with what you're trying for. Make sure the entire piece coincides with what you need on a magical level as well as an aesthetic, and listen to that little voice that's telling you what to go for.

The necklace chain is silver. Everything is silver set.
My wedding ring is green gold, my engagement ring is rose gold, and I wear a yellow gold ring from my grandmother. No iron at all; I'm not a fan.

Thanks so much for the advice. I am learning quite a bit.

Sounds like its a matter of just sorting out what specifically works for you, then! Gold can be very grounding; experiment with wearing a little less gold during ritual or when you're working, and see what that affects. I don't recommend losing everything, though! Solid grounding like symbols from family and loved ones keep an aspect of you tied to the physical plane, as I'm sure you've noticed!

Quartz, of course, will augment what you're going for, but now may not be the time to add that into the mix. And of course all my advice is just what works for me as a Druid practitioner with an affinity for stone and metal. YMMV and your particular pantheon or aspects will guide you as you ought. As with all things we do, patience. It's when you're forcing the least that you'll find the switch you need to repeat the process :)

Ahhhh... sorry if I'm interrupting here, but...

Does liking/being drawn to certain stones say something about you, based on their properties...?

It does, actually! You're drawn to things that you need to balance or augment aspects of personality or your magical being, as well as to things that just mesh well with you - like to like, as it were. Sometimes what it says is little snippets of who you are, sometimes it's little snippets of what you could be, or are meant to be.

That's really good to know. It explains why I prefer so many varied and specific stones and minerals.

Oh! And I don't mean to sound condescending if I do. I've no clue how long you've been practicing, and sometimes I'm a little too helpful for my own good. Your combination of favorite stones is an interesting one :)

Oh, that's okay! You weren't condescending at all. I love when people who know things help me out like this. I tend to be the same way with alternative treatments and botanicals.

My combination is interesting, huh? How so? :)

All three provide a lot of grounding and balance, but putting tourmaline with amber is what interests me. I can see it working well with the kyanite because I see it serving to balance another dual aspect of who you are, but with the amber I wonder if it ends up being too much. Since what you've got is an older amber in your primary pendant, you should be able to work fairly well with it as a vessel for natural power while maintaining a grounding in the physical here and now. The further balancing of the tourmaline seems like it would be too neutralizing for plane-work in a combination, as it serves as a psychic neutering of sorts for many people. What have you noticed so far in the stones themselves and in working with them in conjunction?

From: [identity profile] brightlotusmoon.livejournal.com
Hmmm... neutralizing, I had not considered that. For me, green tourmaline has always been energizing and enhancing, and this has been no exception. However, I've noticed that it slightly pulls me back on certain things, like projecting. I can still project, but I can feel the tourmaline wrapping around me so I don't go too far - not that I would want to with certain planes. But it's still very interesting that you would bring that up.

I am really love the tourmaline ~

But yes, it works. To me at least. ^_^

Do you have any pictures of the rainbow obsidian bracelet?

Aha! It's pretty ~

I like the texture on the copper. It makes me think of light reflecting off of water.
