I really wonder if I am the only person actively trying to research the major comparisons between Chinese sea buckthorn oil and Brazilian andiroba, copaiba, pracaxi, and acai oils. I'm talking bioactive compounds, nutritional compounds, fatty acid compositions, phytosterols, polyphenols, microelements, carotenes, capacity for tissue regeneration and cellular regeneration, etcetera.
Part of me wants all those oils and extracts all in one, but it feels selfish. What if all the Brazil oils can do everything the Chinese oil can do? No, seriously, I mean that.
Would I be satisfied? Yeah, probably. It's just that I've been invested in sea buckthorn oil for over a decade and it's hard to switch to another healing botanical from another country just like that.

Actually, what am I doing? I don't have to choose. I had a memory lapse. Sigh. I love you, Rochelle.

We just keep raising the bar on our cookies.

That is all.

Smooth!

So. Homemade smoothie with frozen acai berry pulp, vanilla coconut milk, organic chocolate syrup, full leaf seabuckthorn green tea, cocoa powder, honey powder, and cinnamon - now with the addition of coffee and cream. I am awesome.

I've taken to adding a few drops of sea buckthorn oil to my daily water, just because. Also because I love watching the oil molecules dance around in the water as I shake the bottle, before settling at the top. Also it tastes really good. Also, it helps with acid reflux and stomach issues.

So, yeah, the crappy weather matches my feelings and pain levels. It's adorable.

I just found out that Fage Total Greek Yogurt makes a blueberry acai flavor and a strawberry acai flavor.
http://www.fageusa.com/products/fage-total-0-percent/

If I had a Flailing Kermit OMG Yay icon, I would use it for this post, because that's how I feel.

It's the little things.

Also, also: I found a skin care product line at Roots that contains a bunch of superfruits like acai, goji, yumberry, and maqui, and everything is under ten dollars.

I have two Body Lotions in White Nectarine Orange Blossom and Orchard Pear Fig, two Body Balms in the same scents that I use as lip balms, and one Body Wash in Orchard Pear Fig.

Again, the little things.

Someone asked me if a friend's taste in books might make me judge them. No, I would not judge a friend based on their book tastes. But I will say this: If you truly believe that characters like Anita Blake and Bella Swan are paragons of feminism and are amazing strong female characters, I will do this with a look of incredulity until my neck hurts. But I won't judge you. Everyone has different and various tastes.

Tonight, Adam will return from yet another job in New York City, and tomorrow we will prepare the bedroom to receive the delivery of the new bed.

Current research: Goji berries versus Sea buckthorn fruit. Comparison of micronutrients, macronutrients, ORAC scores, phytonutrients. This is hard, because there is not a lot of stuff written about the specific comparison between super fruits like goji, sea buckthorn, acai, aronia, noni, and pomegranate. There is a staggering amount written about each fruit, but not necessarily strict comparisons. Oy.

At a local GNC I found this fabulous antioxidant drink that I love so much I can't describe it.
brightlotusmoon: (Default)
The Top Ten ORAC Berries:
1. Acai: 102,700
2. Sea Buckthorn: 70,000
3. Goji (Wolfberry): 30,300
4. Black Chokeberry: 16,000
5. Black Raspberry: 16,000
6. Muscadine Grape: 15,000
7. Elderberry: 12,000
8. Cranberry: 9,500
9. Wild Blueberry: 9,300
10. Blackberry: 5,300
It is important to mention that the Sea Buckthorn and Goji berries also have phenolics and carotenoids giving them an extra bit of health benefit. Of course just their ORAC score is impressive, but who would arguer with a little bit of a bonus.

I surged through a bout of mild insomnia last night. The only interesting thing on was a four-hour marathon of One Life To Live on the Soap Opera Channel. I sat there and ate chips and wrote novel chapter outlines while eating organic potato chips and watching actors scream and cry hysterically and actually mean it. There appeared to be real tears, real facial flushing, real horror. It was fascinating. Most soap opera actresses can sob with the best of them without producing a single tear. I applaud the skills of Bree Williamson and Melissa Archer and might even watch them again.
I wound up falling asleep at five in the morning, after taking a double dose of Valerian Root, which is the best sleep aid I have ever tried (second is Tryptophan).

I had an amazing dream about a colony being built on the moon in one hundred years. The head engineer met his future self in a dream and was told to make the main dome twice as big or it would fail. In the meantime, I was hanging out with my apparent sister and browsing through internet files of 20th and 21st century actors and actresses: "Oh, look, our mother looks just like this actress! Your boyfriend looks like this guy!"
Then I learned I had been accepted at an exclusive university for students with magical potential, but was denied a full scholarship and given only partial financial aid. My futuristic magical devices, however, had other ideas, and teleported me into the administrative offices so I could show proof that I deserved full scholarship and aid.

I woke up at 12:30. I was attacked viciously by burning pain and spasticity. My temporary nectar and ambrosia, my manna, was a combination of Soma, Canadian Tylenol (which in the US would require a prescription since it contains methocarbamol), Guanara, a B Complex, a hot shower with neem and shea butter cleansers, and a cup of Rachel's Vitality Pomegranate Acai Yogurt. Which needs repeating. Pomegranate Acai Yogurt. Dude. I need to buy wholesale. Pomegranate. Acai. Yogurt. Gnah.

I am watching old episodes of Gilmore Girls. Sometimes I think that show really was about me and my mother. Mom and I were doing the rapid-fire quirky dialogue thing before it was cool.

Now I am craving a bottle of pure unsweetened liquid acai berry.

I had a seizure today, triggered by a migraine, a seizure which rode through the migraine and intensified the migraine and for a while I wanted to rip my head apart. It is getting better. I felt as though I had been tripping for a good ten minutes, and not necessarily the good sort of tripping. Reality bends and twists to conform to the brain's lightning storm. Oh, temporal lobe epilepsy.

Luna helped me, again. When I was lying on the bed trying to bring myself back to reality, Luna nudged me and licked my hand, and curled up right next to me and began to purr very loudly and very soothingly. Good girl.

Fibromyalgia pain is no better. Synesthesia has turned sound into sensation, mingling with this flare. Soothing music helps a little bit.

I am devouring The Book of Night with Moon by Diane Duane. I'd found it in a used book store, as a gift for Adam, who had lovingly read it as a teenager and could not remember the title until I did some sleuthing. It is an amazing book. Sometimes I wonder if Ms. Duane wrote a bit of truth, and now I look at my cats and wonder what they really know about the world.

Oh, now, this is brilliant. Goji berries and acai berries do contain the proper amino acid blend than helps maintain healthy youthful skin. I was right. So, technically, if you take the oil or extract of goji or acai, and combine it with, say squalene, hyaluronic acid, MSM, alpha lipoic acid, CoQ10, and certain plant and fruit oils, you really could make an skin moisturizer that actually would slow and smooth the symptoms of skin aging to some degree, depending on the individual. Vicki, it looks like our idea for the Psyche Lotion really was spot on!

It seems that when applied as an ingredient skin care and cosmetics, lycium barbarum extract can help increase the production of collagen and elastin. It can calm subdermal inflammation, reduce bacterial infections on the skin, and promote an even, smooth tone boosted by microcirculation.
Goji berries also contain dozens of amino acids, antioxidants, and micronutrients, all of which the skin craves as it ages or becomes damaged.
So, in a nutshell, goji berries make human skin ecstatic. Acai berries do the same, but the antioxidant power of acai is slightly different than that of goji. Acai has different kinds of antioxidants and it has a higher ORAC rating. In fact, acai and goji go head to head in a lot of ways. Goji berries actually contain ellagic acid, which is fascinating. Pomegranate contains ellagic acid, of course, but I love that goji does too.

I prefer acai juice to drink, and I do love acai oil for my skin, but I can't pick a favorite.

This is why Gojilania's Goji Acai juice has me squealing every time I see the bottle in stores. Same with Bom Dia Energy Conquer. It's kind of hard these days to find beverages that contain both superfruits. Nom.
brightlotusmoon: (Default)
Oh my gods oh Mother Danu oh for the love of Pan YES.

Bom Dia Acai Energy Conquer Juice.
Acai juice, yerba mate, black tea, guarana, pomegranate juice, goji berry juice, noni juice, mangosteen puree, yumberry juice, apple juice, merlot grape juice, ginseng, taurine, vitamin C, l-theanine, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin K.

Augh.
It has everything I want in a juice. Everything. Superfruits galore.
It tastes amazing and divine and I can taste every bit of every fruit ingredient, seriously.
And I am actually energized. Screw coffee.
And it's three bucks plus change. It's less than coffee.
And it's sold at Giant and at the little deli next to the Metro across from my office
And it's amazing. Did I mention divine?

*FLAIL*
*EXPLODE*

*scampers off gibbering*

(This almost makes up for the fibro flare and the migraine.)

Well, I finally found exactly what I've been looking for in Whole Foods.

Goji and Acai Juice Blend (with pineapple and apple).

This. Is. God Nectar.

I also got Goji Blueberry, Goji Mangosteen, and Goji Pomegranate.

Adam teases me for my penchant for exotic, unique juice blends. Sure, these are expensive. But it's goji and acai. I can't pass it up. I no longer buy cosmetics unnecessarily (seriously; I wait until I run out). If I am to have a shopping vice, I'd rather it be exotic health beverages that offer anti-inflammatory and tonic benefits.

Also, I got Goat Kefir with Pomegranate, Acai, and Blueberry. It's a one-liter bottle. It's going to be my main travel meal. I don't like eating on road trips unless absolutely necessary -- I have a phobia that involves needing a bathroom at the worst times. I usually prefer liquid meals on road trips anyway. And I love goat milk and anything involving goat milk. And acai. So, yeah.

We leave for Sag Harbor on Monday morning.

I am finally starting to feel better. Pain is minimal, muscle tension and spasticity has lessened.

Oh... my.

I swear, the gods of chocolate love me and hate me at the same time...

Dark Chocolate with Goji Berry and Maca
Dark Chocolate with Acai and Yakon

I am so very tempted to run to Whole Foods tomorrow.
Maybe I should wait. Temptation can wait, right?
Right?
Right?

*fidget, whimper*
brightlotusmoon: (Default)
Goji Berry Pomegranate Green Tea

One more thing to add to that shopping list.
The gods of superfoods and supertea have smiled upon me.

I am approximately as excited as the day I discovered my beloved skin cream with goji berry and sea buckthorn and lip balm with acai and pomegranate.

Really, it does not take much to make me incredibly happy.

On my way home yesterday, I went to the salon across from the Cleveland Park Metro (for eyebrow waxing). Afterwards, I stopped into Yes Organic Market. They had a juice smoothie I've never tried. So I bought it. I just drank it. If you could see my face, you might see very wide eyes, a huge grin, and me about to start bouncing in my chair.

It's called Sambazon Rio Energy Organic Acai Juice, with Guarana and Yerba Mate.

Coffee? What coffee? I do not need coffee, thank you. This is fine.
Painkiller? Muscle relaxant? I don't need those either. This works just fine right now.
Nice!

Luckily, the Whole Foods store at the Tenleytown Metro also carries it, which is fortuitous, since they also carry Gojilania goji juice. The real kind, not the diluted kind. It's extremely anti-inflammatory and good for the fibro flares.
(http://goji-leadership.com/goji_health_benefits/alternative_health/goji-juice-and-fibromyalgia/ - I take all this with a grain of salt, but it's interesting)

I am making a little shopping list for Whole Foods right now:
Sambazon Acai Rio Energy Juice, Gojilania Goji Juice, Kashi TLC Chewy Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cookies, Stonyfield Farms Shift Power Punch Acai Smoothie, Spiru-Tein Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl Energy Bar, Zoe's Whole Grain Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss Energy Bar.

Yes.

...What?

There is a Smoothie King several blocks away from where I used to work, on Pennsylvania Avenue. I could walk there from Metro Center, or even from my current office building at the corner of 8th and G streets.
This does not bode well for me or my wallet.
Besides, I'm not sure if I can carry a smoothie on the train, even if I don't put the straw in it to drink from.
But... it's right there. I can walk to it.
I could have an acai smoothie every day if I wanted.
I'm doomed, aren't I.

The other day, Danny and I drove to the Smoothie King in Gaithersburg and I got a 32-oz acai smoothie with double yogurt added. I had most of it for dinner that night. It does contain over 700 calories after all, not including the yogurt (the 20 oz has 481 calories without yogurt). I then had some of it for yesterday's breakfast. I had the rest for today's breakfast.
And now I want another one.
Welcome to smoothie addiction, party of me.
brightlotusmoon: (Default)
Danny and I gave into our Smoothie King cravings and drove to the local shop. I bought an Acai Adventure with double yogurt smoothie. The stuff is unbelievably addicting. I love the taste of Acai berry in a smoothie. Acai berry is delicious and reminds me of pomegranate mixed with dark chocolate. It's also one of the most nutritious, healthy foods on the planet.

Adam was smoking salmon on the grill when we got back. I'm eating an awesome dinner now: Grilled salmon topped with fresh garlic scallions from our own garden; purple potatoes doused with SmartBalace butter and marjoram; and of course, my acai smoothie.

Dinner rocks.

And a new episode of the Simpsons soon.

Yay.
