I never thought I'd be defending a politician I can't stand, but this bears repeating.
Ya know that "book list" that Sarah Palin supposedly wants banned? It's making the rounds online and enraging people, but, see, here's the funny thing: It's not real. (See numbers 40 to 43) It's a fake list. Most of those books were published after her time in office when she would have called for the ban.
Yes, I know, it all looks real, and it angers a lot of you. It would piss me off too, if it was true. A lot of what Palin stands for pisses me off, but I see no reason to believe everything that people say about her. Okay? Okay.
Let me repeat that, in case someone wants to yell at me: I. Don't. Like. Palin's. Politics. But I am not going to go crying over something as ridiculous as many of the rumors on that website. No, I don't think said website is the most awesome, wonderful thing ever. But it's better than a lot of the stuff I've been seeing, which is starting to feel like a bunch of urban legends.
Guys, I love you all. But please please please check your facts. Not everything you read and hear about politicians and authority figures is true. This goes for Palin, Biden, McCain, Obama, Lrr From The Planet Omicron Persei 8, Morbo, The Doctor, The Master, the Goa'uld, the Tok'ra, the Ori, Dr. Phlox, and the Vulcans.
I just want to be informed. This is me being informed. So, if you want to debate and argue, go ahead, but I'd rather look at the whole story and decide if I should hate Palin based on rumors or on truth.
And those of you who know me also know that I really hate talking about politics. And I am neither conservative nor liberal. So for me to post an entry like this is serious, for me, personally. Got it?
Okay, then.
This is me shutting up now.

EDIT: Also? I won't be responding to comments that want to start arguments. If you give me links and such, I'll read them and form my own opinion. And see, there's a funny word: Opinion. Everyone has one. But make sure that your opinion is not the only truth out there, 'kay? I know what I personally think. You don't have to tell me.
Seriously, I love you, but I'm gonna step out of any shouting matches.

I have this unending, intense thirst for knowledge and information, and I will go to all possible sources, regardless of who I agree and disagree with, because the worst thing I can do is act on information based on a bias or a personal opinion with no real fact. Everybody has something to say. But not everybody is an expert, or even well-informed, no matter how much they think they are. Therefore, I am always, always searching for answers.

There are a few people whom I trust completely when it comes to political views, fact-checking, and separating truth from opinion, rational thought from intense emotion. And those people posted things in their journals today that made me think hard. I want to thank them. They know who they are. I have already thanked them in their entries, but I need to do it again.
I now know several facts that I was honestly not aware of previously. My brain is thrilled. I now feel armed, in a way, because if someone tries to yell and complain and whine, I can give them such information without feeling uncertain or insecure.
I like to be proven wrong, especially when I really don't know the answer. Thinking I have an answer doesn't mean I actually have one. I hate arguing, because I don't know how to argue. I don't really know how to debate. All I know is how to present my own opinion and belief, and ask that those who want to debate do so calmly and rationally.
The friends I refer to have done so, and one in particular wins my heart. Granted, she already has for various reasons, so yes, I will admit a bias. But I also know that she and I are willing to call each other on bullshit, which is even better, because that is what sisters do.

So, thank you to B. for lots of things. Also, to K. for making me realize some very important things about one of my deepest personal beliefs and ideologies -- I still hold fast to that belief, but I can now look at it from all sorts of angles, without resorting to cliched phrases and declarations.

Also, I have no desire whatsoever anymore to get snarly and angry over any of the current Presidential candidates. Only the politics.

Yes, I am very naive. I'm working to remedy that.

I hate blogging about politics, so I'll just say this.

Dear Sarah Palin:
Stay the fuck away from the wolves, or I'll pay someone $150 to bring me your foreleg. As in your arm. Maybe both arms.
Oh, and stay away from my uterus, my sexuality, and my spirituality, too.
But mostly the wolves.
Thanks.

(Note: I am neither conservative nor liberal, I am Centrist. I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I fully support abortion, gay marriage, gun ownership, personal freedom, and small government. Extreme left-wingers scare me as much as extreme right-wingers scare me. I don't read Daily Kos and I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh as they both tend to make me physically ill. I refuse to give in to the ranting and screaming and hollering and shit-throwing and name-calling on both sides. I try to stay rational. I agree with almost all of my husband's conservative libertarian views happily. I don't call any politician an annoying nickname just because it's trendy, ie Chimp or Shrub. I hate fighting over personal political viewpoints.
But if any politician goes anywhere near the wolves in this country with intent to harm, and I will do my best to bite hard and without mercy.)

Whatever your personal opinion about the subject is, this is something to think about.
Just saying.

You know, I was just congratulating myself on having gone a whole week without the fibro flaring up.
Thank you, menses.
My nerves are now screaming like a million screamapillers. Yes, I reference the Simpsons when I am in horrible pain. Yes, it sort of makes me feel better.

I have decided not to play any politics games, at all. If you want to hate something, fine. Just don't expect me to agree with you.
I will fucking not hate Fox News because some random stranger on an internet forum told me I should if I wanted to be an intelligent person. I am not calling President Bush a dumb chimp, I am not making fun of Barack Obama or John McCain, I am certainly not going to jump in on the "let's call all Libertarians idiots" game, and I will not use the terms "libtard" or "neo-con nutjob" in any conversation. Enough, already. You sound like playground bullies. I'm tired of it.
(Note: This is not aimed at anyone I know, this is just me venting.)
I read this and laughed. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StrawmanPolitical

I had a very strong, full-blown simple partial seizure last night, riding on the heels of some intense spasticity from the cerebral palsy. Motor, sensory, automatic, psychic -- it lasted about two minutes, but it was still hell.

So.

I am in loads of pain, I have my period, I am highly irritable, and I've grown my fingernails longer than usual.

Dear World: Do not fuck with me today. Thank you.

"United States Department of Health and Human Services proposes classifying contraception as abortion."

Y'know... I'm just going to sit here and stare blankly for a while.

The sheer, unbound, rampant, screaming idiocy astounds me. But it doesn't surprise me.

I mean, this sort of thing has been raging on in debate classes for a long time, right?

I love Naamah's rant, but I'm not getting all worked up about it yet, because the moronic proposal might not go through; it's mostly a handful of wacky fundamentalist nutjobs who still don't think women have any basic rights to our bodies, etc etc and who obviously have no idea how contraception works.
But still. How many times can we say it? OUR BODIES. OUR WOMBS. OURS. NOT YOURS. YOU CANNOT HAS.

Whatever. It's stupidity at its finest and strongest, but the thing about stupidity is that it has a very high rate of fail.

That's all. Feel free to debate, but I might be quiet until tonight. I have a lot of work today.

Adam is in Ohio, setting up internet access for the media coverage of President Bush today. He'll be home tomorrow (if his shoulder doesn't dislocate again because his boss kinda lied about the job difficulty and now I'm mad at the boss; because my husband will be doing work that he shouldn't).
Usually when the president gives a speech, or when presidental candidates give certain conferences, Adam's company is hired to set up some of the equipment.
(Dear Bush haters: This does not mean we are fans of GW Bush. Just because we don't ever spout grotesque* vitriol about the man doesn't mean we like him.)
I will be voting for Barack Omaba. I have my reasons. The fact that I am a registered Democrat means nothing. The fact that my husband is a registered Republican means nothing. The fact that we call ourselves Libertarians (who, by the way, are certainly not abominations, thank you) means nothing.

And people wonder why I don't discuss politics here on LJ. I feel sick every time I do, because people can become very ugly very quickly.

*(When used in conversation, grotesque commonly means strange, fantastic, ugly or bizarre, and thus is often used to describe weird shapes and distorted forms)

Since Adam became an election judge, he had to be at the local elementary school -- where our neighborhood would vote -- by six this morning. I went with him, as there was a bus stop up the street that would go to the metro station. I sat and read my book as Adam and the other judges set up, and at ten to seven I waited in line outside the room, as people began filing in. I was the second person to cast a vote. I'm registered as a Democrat (though a Centrist/Libertarian in my heart), and I went through the process, put my vote in for Barack Obama, handed my card to the guy, blew a kiss to my husband, and headed out for the bus. It was phenomenally cold. My Raynaud's flared up instantly. It took about an hour for me to be able to feel my toes again.

Say what?

Regarding the Mr. Rogers thing and the Professor Asshat Fuckwad on Fox News:

What the fuck do you people put in your cereal before going to work? Batshit Crazy Crunchy Clusters?

Political extremists drive me up a wall. Through which I want to punt them.

People ask me why I'm a Centrist. I just blink slowly.
Please, someone defend these people. Someone please tell me why I shouldn't be snarling and snapping right now. I'm serious.

On the partial-birth ban: I knew it would happen eventually. I did not even know about the prodedure until a few years ago, and I don't like the idea of a partial-birth abortion, but I'm pro-choice for a reason. One of my main annoyances concerning the abortion debate is when women use abortion as a form of birth control. But in the case of partial-birth abortion, this ban troubles me, because "Late-term abortions are only used under the most compelling of circumstances-- to protect a woman's health or life or because of grave fetal abnormality....nearly all abortions are performed in the first trimester." (NARAL President Kate Michelman wrote in a Scripps Howard News Service op ed published June 16, 1996).
I don't believe this move will set back abortion rights, but a lot of people who oppose abortion are having a field day. Sigh.

I'm seeing so many debates and arguments on LJ today about civil liberties and basic human rights. I have no desire to get involved in any of them. I'm just going to say this, and I am done: I'm pro-choice, pro-gun ownership, pro-death penalty, pro-cannabis. I don't want to explain why right now. I'm not a "member" of any political party, this is what I believe personally. There. That's it. Enough. I'm not even going to argue with comments should they be commented. Y'all can say anything you wish, it's your right and your opinion and your belief and good for you, seriously; and I won't debate it.

I'll post something happier shortly.

I never did like posting about politics. It makes me tired.

On democracy

Say what you will about this man I call a brother and a friend, the husband of my best friend ... the things he says and quotes, and the things he believes in, are worth knowing about, and he is a man worth all the respect in the world.
Hey, James? I'm glad I know you.

Also? Bane wins at life for his quote about voting in the second post.

I had to bite my lip hard to keep from snickering.

This is why I'm libertarian and neutral. I am equally irritated by both extreme liberals and extreme conservatives. Extremist animal rights activists and extremist anti-abortionists are both really fucking annoying in my book. One side acts like bratty whiny children and the other side acts like cold-hearted stubborn seniors. Either way, good luck trying to mediate.

Okay, political stabbing over. Thank you.
(This is why I don't discuss politics in public. People usually don't like my views)
